A newly released statement by the Southern Africa Region Climate Action Network (SARCAN) outlines a bold set of demands to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy and energy efficiency across the sub-region
The key summary recommendations shared with Madagascar are as follows:
- Promote renewable energy technologies and energy efficiency across the region
- Adopt a human rights-based approach to ensure equitable access to clean energy
- Accelerate public education and awareness campaigns on clean energy
- Strengthen partnerships for technology transfer and collaboration
- Fully implement the region’s Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Strategy and Action Plan (REEESAP)
- Mobilize greater investment in renewable energy projects
- Commit to universal energy access for the benefit of the energy poor
